Put Money In Your Pocket With A Metal Roof

Put Money In Your Pocket With A Metal Roof

When it comes to metal roofing, myths abound. One myth has just a thin veneer of truth to it: that metal roofs are more expensive. If we’re talking upfront costs, they sure are. But if we’re talking long-term dividends, a metal roof can actually help you pocket serious money over your lifetime—including a hunk of cash from the government in the first year.

A quality metal roof not only lasts about three times longer than most roofing materials, which survive an average of 17 years, but it’s also “green” enough to still warrant a tax credit. That’s because the Energy Efficiency Tax Incentives for metal roofs have been extended into 2013, refunding you about 10 percent of the cost of installed materials, capped at $500 per home. All you need is a reputable contractor and certification that you’re buying a pre-painted or coated Energy Star–labeled metal roof designed to reduce heat gain. (Keep that certification on file in case of an audit!)

Frey Construction & Home Improvement, LLC has a variety roofing options and can help you make the right selection today.

A metal roof gives you more bang for your buck a few other ways, too. Light or dark, a metal roof lowers energy bills by reducing cooling loads in hot weather and insulating homes during the winter. Due to its longer life and energy efficiency, it can increase the resale value of your home. In some states, including Wisconsin, it can even lower your homeowners’ insurance by up to 35 percent. Oh, and that difference between the cost of asphalt shingles and the cost of metal roofing? It’s shrunk, because rising oil prices have increased the cost of asphalt.

Still not convinced? Let’s debunk some of the other myths:

  • They’re ugly. Not anymore. Today’s metal roofing comes in tons of colors and styles can be made to look just like just about any other roofing material you can imagine.
  • They attract lightning. A metal roof does not increase a home’s likelihood of getting zapped. And if struck by lightning, it will safely disperse the energy throughout the structure.
  • They’re noisy. On the contrary, when installed with solid sheathing, a metal roof can actually be superior at silencing noise from rain, hail, and other bad weather.
  • They rust. Before being painted, steel metal roofing is bonded at the factory with a coat of either zinc or a combination of zinc and aluminum. This metallic coating prevents rust.
  • They dent. In most cases, a metal roof can withstand decades of abuse from even the most extreme weather. Today’s systems also have a 150-mph wind rating (equal to an F2 tornado).
  • You can’t walk on them. Of course you can! A contractor can provide details on the best way to do so without causing any damage, and based on the style you chose and your roof pitch.

Customer Stories

Don't just take our word for it...

We recently had our home remodeled by the team at Frey Construction. The entire Frey team was professional, experienced, courteous and patient. The final result was exactly how we had envisioned. If we have other home remodeling projects in the future, we would certainly not hesitate to call Frey Construction again.

I am very pleased with Frey Construction. They replaced my roof and gutters. The workers were fast and efficient, and they were always courteous and professional. The office staff was patient and helpful and I appreciated all the time they spent to answer my questions. The quality of work is exceptional and they exceeded my expectations with the clean up afterwards. I highly recommend them!

Frey has done a lot of work for us and the quality is always great. My favorite thing about them is that they are extremely responsive and professional with great customer service. We've previously worked with them on siding and gutters. Most recently I had some windows replaced. They were very helpful and assisted in removing a wall-mounted shelf, which I consider an above and beyond service.
